Skill Seekers

Skills. It’s a good idea to get some.

When you don’t have skills you can end up in a job that doesn’t pay very much. If taking off to university or tech, or enrolling in a tertiary course isn’t for you, don’t worry - it’s not for everyone. There are other ways you can get skills to help you get a job and start a career. And you can even get paid while you get qualified.

Get paid to learn.

If you’re 16 to 21 years old you can train as a Modern Apprentice and get the skills and qualifications you need while you work on the job. It’s a great way to start out in a job because from day one you’ll get paid and learn a trade. There are more than 30 different industries and jobs to choose from, like boat building, hospitality, tourism, horticulture and retail. And right now there are more than 7000 people doing it.
